Patsy Orlofsky and her husband, Myron, embarked on a three-year research project about
quilts that resulted in their landmark book, Quilts in America, published in 1974. It was in such
great demand that, after it went out of print in 1985, a copy might fetch $300 or more. Myron
died in 1976, so the task to reprint the book was wholly left to Patsy and in 1992 she took the
necessary steps to republish with “the text and selection of pictures… essentially the same.”
Patsy and her husband acquired a collection of nearly 300 quilts and became frequent
lecturers and exhibition consultants. Patsy established The Textile Conservation Workshop in
South Salem, New York, which today handles around 350 special textiles each year. Patsy
serves on several panels and organizations where her expertise is highly valued.
