Mary Fons

Teacher, author, lecturer, magazine founder and publisher, mail-order business owner, and well-known television personality, Marianne Fons has seemingly done it all in the world of quilting. Her partnership with Liz Porter included writing one of the all-time best-selling quilt books, the Quilter’s Complete Guide in 1993 and co-founding Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting magazine and television series in 1996. After selling their business in 2006, Marianne’s contributions to the quilting world continued as she co-hosted the television show with daughter Mary Fons for several years and served on the board of directors and as liaison between Quilts of Valor and the quilting industry. She is a proud booster of life in her hometown of Winterset, Iowa, where she helped establish the Iowa Quilt Museum and where you will occasionally find her welcoming visitors as she sells admission tickets or on a ladder hanging quilts for an exhibition.
